Verbosity

A number of translators are not aware of the fact that it will not be an assassination of the grammar of the English language to eliminate the one word that is a signal of verbosity.
There is a number of manners one can be verbose in writing. One of which, particularly for translators translating from Portuguese into English, is to use a particular word an excessive number of times in a sentence.
What word are we talking about? Anyone?
To illustrate verbosity, “excessively” could have been used above instead of “an excessive number of times”. Why use five (5) words when one will suffice?

Não sei… Mas fiquei curioso.
Seria “of”? Em certas ocasiões pode ser evitado usando-se a forma possessiva “’s”.
